Energy Assistance Program Application

The application for the Energy Assistance Program is called the Minnesota Energy Programs Application. While the EAP program year runs from October 1 to May 31 each year, from June through September households can still send in an application and get on the list for possible Weatherization Assistance Program services and to automatically be sent an application before the start of the next program year. During the offseason, local Service Providers may also be able to identify other services, such as emergency energy assistance.

What you may need to apply (verification documents):

  • Recent copies of your utility bills such as your heating or electric bills or your fuel receipt if you use delivered fuel for heating.

  • Copies of payroll stubs for the last three months or other proof that shows current gross income for everyone in your household

  • Proofs showing income from Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Pension Funds, disability, other public programs and other types of unearned income

  • Copy of Final Utility Termination Notice (if you have received a shut-off notice from your energy company)

Do not send original documents. Make a copy of all proofs that you are including with your application.

Other rules that may affect your eligibility:

  • Asset Limit: None

  • Citizenship Requirement: You will be asked to provide Social Security Numbers for all household members on the application. However, a verifiable social security number is only required for the primary applicant. If no one in your household has a verifiable SSN, an alternative legal document number may be allowable.

  • Residency Requirement: You must be a resident of the county in which you are applying.
